Naturopathic Medicine

Naturally focused healthcare.

As a naturopathic doctor (ND), rather than focusing on symptoms, NDs work to identify ‘root’ cause of health issues. They don't prescribe pharmaceutical drugs, but make natural health recommendations and work to improve the sleep, stress, exercise, diet, etc., of their patients.

Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of physical impairments that hinder a person’s ability to move and function. Physiotherapists provide evidence-informed treatment to improve a patient’s quality of life. Typically, physiotherapy is centered around exercise, education, manual therapy techniques and passive treatment modalities.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy involves the assessment of the internal pelvic muscles (commonly called “the pelvic floor”), as well as surrounding ligaments and joints. The physiotherapist will assess these structures via vaginal and/or rectal examination. Pelvic floor physiotherapists have taken post-graduate training in order to achieve these specialized skills. This type of treatment may be appropriate for people suffering from pelvic pain, prolapse, incontinence, chronic hip or low back pain, or during pregnancy.

Physiotherapy treatment can also be provided for breastfeeding concerns; either for inflamed breast conditions or issues with poor latch. Inflammatory breast concerns involve assessment and treatment of the breast, while latch concerns involve assessment and treatment of the baby’s jaw, mouth, and neck.

Physiotherapy at The Healing Station has a $50 out-of-pocket fee for cancellations with less than 48 hours notice, or for no-shows.

Massage Therapy

A registered massage therapist (RMT) manipulates the soft tissues of the body (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin), to provide both healing and relaxation.

Acupuncture

Sharon provides a healing, therapeutic & relaxing experience through tailored acupuncture treatments.

Sarah graduated in 2006 from her hometown university of UPEI with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She went on to complete her Masters degree in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University in 2008. She immediately started her career in private practice in Kentville, where her and her husband settled in and are raising their family of three children together. Knowing there was a need for more pelvic floor therapists, as well as more education and awareness about pelvic health in general, Sarah went on to secure a number of pelvic floor courses towards her certification with the hopes of caring for this population of patients and broadening her scope of practice. Sarah has completed courses for the female and male population, and can treat an array of conditions including, but not limited to issues such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic pain.
